Web UI Research

Evaluating and researching modern web interfaces for Apache AGE.

The Problem

The official AGE Viewer hasn't seen active development recently. Users need better tools for:

  • Visualizing graph data
  • Running and testing Cypher queries
  • Exploring schemas and relationships
  • Debugging and development

Current State of AGE Viewer

Pros:

  • Official Apache project
  • Basic query interface
  • Graph visualization

Cons:

  • Outdated dependencies
  • Limited features compared to alternatives
  • Infrequent updates

Research Areas

1. Evaluate Existing Tools

Can these tools work with AGE (via PostgreSQL)?

  • pgAdmin - PostgreSQL's standard admin tool
  • DBeaver - Universal database tool
  • Neo4j Browser - Could it connect via Bolt protocol adapter?
  • Grafana - For monitoring and dashboards

2. Modern Alternatives

What would a modern AGE UI look like?

  • Graph visualization libraries (D3.js, Cytoscape.js, vis.js)
  • Query editors with Cypher syntax highlighting
  • Schema exploration and documentation
  • Query history and saved queries

3. Integration Possibilities

  • VS Code extension for AGE/Cypher
  • Jupyter notebook integration
  • CLI tools with better output formatting

Status

Current Phase: Research & Evaluation

We're currently:

  • Testing AGE Viewer with the latest AGE version
  • Evaluating whether existing PostgreSQL tools can handle AGE queries
  • Researching graph visualization libraries

Contribute

If you have experience with:
